Alberton unfolds along a dramatic stretch of the Clark Fork River, about 30 minutes west of Missoula. The landscape here shifts from tranquil eddies to adrenaline-class whitewater, with the Alberton Gorge serving as a cinematic corridor of cliffs, rapids and layered rock walls.
Three steel-span river crossings—Elizabeth Lane Bridge, Cyr Bridge and Alberton Gorge Bridge—offer elevated angles over the river, and a steel truss bridge, known locally as the Natural Pier Bridge, adds industrial geometry to the otherwise organic setting.
The town’s historic nature holds its own visual charm. Structures like the Montana Valley Book Store and Sportsman’s “Sporty’s” Bar reflect Alberton’s quiet, small-town character, while the River Edge Resort and Steakhouse offers lodge-style interiors and riverside views. The Alberton Railroad Museum preserves early 20th-century stories in a compact, walkable setting. Just outside town, Alberton Orchard adds to the scenery with log cabins, roaming bison and Highland cattle set against sweeping views.
