The county seat of Mineral County, Superior sits just off Interstate Highway 90 and offers pristine Clark Fork River scenery—the river flows right through town—as well as fishing and floating locales. This quiet community is surrounded by mountains, nestled right in the middle of the Bitterroot Range in the Lolo National Forest.
Superior is a named for its rich history in gold strikes and its abundant natural resources. You’ll find historical buildings here as well as the Superior Ranger Station. The popular Vista Trail features several viewpoints including an overlook of the Clark Fork River.
Just 25 miles (34 minutes) from town, Fish Creek State Park offers 5,603 acres of exquisite landscapes, with varied topography including timbered areas, ridges, flat stretches, riparian areas and steep, narrow canyons, as well as the crystal-blue pools of Fish Creek. The Alberton Gorge provides whitewater rapids, and the Williams Peak lookout offers incredible views of the Mission Mountains to the northeast and the Bitterroot Mountains to the southwest.
Superior is about an hour from the full services of Missoula, though the town does have several accommodations as well as services like a grocery store, hardware store, bank and pharmacy.
